Lesson in Humility

Philippians 2:1-18

There’s a lot of misconceptions about humility. Most people of humility as belittling of oneself. Not according to the Bible.

Humility  is not thinking less of yourself. But thinking of yourself less.

God doesn’t want us to feel less of ourselves. But He wants us to understand where we can fit in the world in with our weaknesses and strengths.  We all have talents. But before God we are all small.

If you want to make God lough tell Him about your plans. Or tell him about how much you know.

Matthew 26:47-46 Jesus humbled himself before God and even before people. He knew his mission and what it is that he had to accomplish in life.  He didn’t follow the law of nature where the strongest survives.

Humility is the primary virtue we admire… in other people.

Ephesians 5:22 Command to wives to be humble and submissive has nothing to do with superiority or someone being better or more capable. It’s about football finding your purpose in life and putting the needs of your spouse above yours and helping them accomplish their mission.

God wants us to look for the needs and understand how our gifts and talents can help meet these needs.  God expects us to obey Him not because He said so, but because we understand it’s the right thing to do.

Philippians 2:8-11 Humility comes before honor. If we understand this God will give us honor.  Jesus understood this. There was no one who could show us prose relationship with God and would be humble enough to die for our sins on the cross.
