the calling

The Calling

A simple question that can totally reframe your week: what’s your purpose? So often we answer that question with a list of obstacles—I’m not good enough… I’m too much… I don’t have what it takes. But the turning point isn’t trying harder or becoming more “qualified.” It’s trusting the love of Christ.

Jesus doesn’t wait until we’ve cleaned ourselves up or proven we’re ready. His invitation is straightforward: “Follow me, and I will make you.” The calling comes first—then Jesus shapes you into who you need to become. And the best part? When God calls, He also provides. You’re not being sent out alone or empty-handed. He has already supplied what you need for the journey—starting with Christ Himself.

If you’ve been hesitating because of your “what ifs,” this message is a reminder: take the next faithful step, and let Jesus do the making.

Sermon outline:

1) The core question: “What is your purpose?”

  • Start by naming your purpose—and then reframe it through Jesus’ perspective (it opens “a world of possibilities”).

2) The common blockers (the “what if” list)

  • We get stuck on obstacles: “I’m not good enough… I’m too much… I don’t have this or that.”

3) The pivot: faith in Christ’s love

  • The answer isn’t self-confidence—it’s trust: “It’s all about faith in the love of Christ… I just need to trust God.”

4) Jesus’ call comes before qualifications

  • Jesus doesn’t say “fix yourself, then come.”

  • He says: “Follow me and I will make you” (He does the work; He transforms you).

5) God provides what you need for the calling

  • When Jesus calls, He’s already provided—“the lamb… everything we need.”
