Heart of a Mother

Today, we gather not only to celebrate Mother’s Day, but to honor something far deeper—a sacred fire placed by God Himself in the heart of every mother.

Isaiah 66:13 tells us, “As a mother comforts her child, so will I comfort you.” This verse requires no explanation because we have all seen it: the way a mother’s arms soothe, her words calm, her mere presence brings peace. A mother’s heart comforts—even when no one sees, even when no one acknowledges the cost.

Like Hannah in 1 Samuel, who did not simply want a child—she wanted God’s purpose fulfilled in her life. She prayed with passion, tears, and faith. Her heart burned on the altar of prayer. And what happened? Heaven responded! Her intercession gave rise to a prophet. There is no intercessor like a mother on her knees.

We see it again in Mary, the mother of Jesus. Luke 2:19 says she “pondered all these things in her heart.” She watched her son, taught Him, protected Him—even when she didn’t understand what His path would look like. When others fled the cross, Mary remained. A mother’s love does not let go. It does not quit. It surrenders—even when the cost is great.

In 2 Timothy 1:5, Paul reminds Timothy of the faith of his mother and grandmother—Lois and Eunice. That faith was passed down through whispered blessings, nighttime prayers, and the quiet strength of women who believed. Their fire became Timothy’s foundation.

To every mother and mother figure here today: your fire matters. It may burn quietly. It may go unnoticed by the world. But heaven sees. That sacred flame changes generations.

So today, we say: Rock the cradle and shake the heavens. Wipe the tears and keep the altar lit. For the sacred fire in your heart is the very echo of God’s eternal love.

Mothers, take heart. Your love is God’s love in action. Kindle the flame.
