It’s difficult to process the devastation that the destruction of Jerusalem and the temple had on God’s people. Surely, the physical disaster was only a small part of the pain that was felt. The hopes and dreams of Israel also crumbled with Jerusalem’s walls.

So many of us face periods of crisis and even devastation. These are not planned times when sin is revealed, leadership changes are mishandled, or trials of other kinds seem to dominate. As dark as Lamentations is, the center chapter reminds us that God never abandons his people, even when they face tough tests.

Regardless, it can be difficult to face challenging times in your life. But there’s always hope.
