Sometimes words change their meaning over time. And it seems like our idea of what “hope” means is slowly changing to mean pretty much the opposite of what it’s supposed to mean. When we see clouds and say, “I hope it doesn’t rain” most of the time we’re
really saying, “I don’t want it to rain, but it probably will.” If that’s our idea of hope, then it can be really confusing when the Bible says that God is the God of hope, or that our hope is in Jesus. God is not the god of wishful thinking or futile dreams, our God (The One True God) is the God of fulfilled promises!
