The Armor of God isn’t physical armor, it’s spiritual. And the most important part of the Armor of God is the Helmet of Salvation. You need to be saved from your sins more than you need anything else in the whole world. You can put on the Helmet of Salvation by believing in Jesus Christ as your Savior.
Put on the Breastplate of Righteousness by doing what is right. Doing what God tells you to do is like wearing body armor in the spiritual battle that we’re all in. Your righteousness cannot save you from the eternal consequences of your sin (only Jesus can do that for you) but it CAN help protect you from the earthly consequences of sin.
Put on the Belt of Truth by being honest. Just like a belt helps a soldier to carry the weight of their armor and keep it all in place, our integrity and trustworthiness help to strengthen the rest of our spiritual armor, the Armor of God. If you are dishonest, it will be very hard to fight against the spiritual forces of evil.
Have you ever thought about how amazing your Bible is? The Bible is God’s Word! How cool is that??? Douglas once got to see a letter that was actually written by Abraham Lincoln (one of the most influential presidents of the United States).
The Parable of the Good Samaritan helps us to understand how we should treat the people who disagree with us. When Jesus says to “love your neighbor as yourself, do you ever wonder, “who is my neighbor?” Well, the answer is EVERYBODY! And that includes the people who don’t believe what you believe.
What does God require of you? In Micah 6:8 He tells us to act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with Him. We should be practicing all three. Don’t just pick one or two of your favorites! You need all three to be living the full and effective life that God has called you to.
God can take even a very small act of kindness to make a BIG difference. Helping those in need doesn’t have to be overwhelming. You don’t have to fix all of life’s problems to make a huge impact in this broken world we live in.
